Uy! Comics debuts Segovia Solutions in Komikon

Two years ago, I took this shot from my cellphone camera, on a makeshift graveyard for journalists down south. Yes, that is a real news vehicle, crushed and buried deep in the ground.

Being among the few Manila-based reporters who witnessed the bodies of  57 (another one is still missing) people being dug out. Everyone who saw the crime scene itself has the responsibility to let the people know of the problem of impunity in the country. No one is above the law, they say, but until now, more than a hundred suspects roam free after the massacre. The list of journalists being assassinated has not stopped even after Nov. 23, 2009.

Journalists being killed on a regular basis, for most people I'm afraid, have become a recurring plot that they set aside.

On my part, I aimto reach a different group of people, mostly teenagers and twentysomethings who may have been stereotyped for their fond of big-eyed characters and hyper-muscled heroes. With the help of Singapore-based artist Tin Manasan and former Philippine Collegian artist Jether Amar, we created the comic series, "Segovia Solutions. "
